In Week 3, we will have our first try at public speaking, albeit at a distance.
I think that we'll find that even though our textbook readings are more targeted at face-to-face situations, the principles of public speaking still apply for our purposes. We still need Confidence, as speaking in this format still inspires nervousness and fear. We still need a clear Purpose with strategic Main Points. Even though we are behind a computer screen, our Voice and our Body is still powerful in the way we convey our ideas and our personality.
Thank you to the students who posted their Week 1 tutorials. By Friday, we will have our Week 2 Lucas tutorials as well. And so for this journal post, I would like everyone to select 2 of the tutorial videos that your classmates made for you. View the videos and reflect on your first Personal Speech. This is important because your assessment is based on much of the content covered in Lucas.
In your post, I would like you to identify one idea from each of the tutorial videos you watch, and share what was a new learning for you. And then reflect on how you can apply it in your Personal Speech. You may also reflect on how you would improve these points in your speech assignments going forward.
Please make your first post by your speech day. After, please respond to 2 classmates' posts. In your response you can agree with them or add more to what they wrote. The intention is to generate some discussion. The response posts are due by class time on Week 4.
Please remember to include your ID# in your post. Aj. M

ReplyDeleteIntroduction_Eye
Main idea - Introduction is like a first impression. It can convey the speaker’s personality and thinking to the audience. For example, if the speaker starts the introduction with a confused or unclear topic, the audience will not understand the message that is delivered. Also, the speech will likely to be failed.
Honestly, this topic (introduction) is not 100 percent new learning for me, but I think I understand much better after watching the video of my classmate. What’s new learning for me is the 4 objectives of the introduction. The first one is “getting the attention and interest of your audience” by arousing the curiosity of the audience, telling a provocative/dramatic/suspense story, stating the importance of the topic, and so forth. Secondly, “revealing the topic of your speech” and should be clear since the audience may be confused if the speaker doesn’t reveal the topic clearly. Next, “establishing your credibility and goodwill.” The credibility statement can be from the speaker’s experience, knowledge, reading, or friends, which show their expertise. The last objective is “previewing the body of the speech”, but do not reveal your central idea, which should be in the body part of the speech.
All things considered, I can and will use all of these suggestions to improve my personal speech because for now, I think there are some parts that I may change in order to make the introduction to be more effective.
Confidence_Dieo
Main idea - Confidence is the key when it comes to public speaking. However, most people, even some of the greatest public speakers also have suffered from stage fright, which is anxiety over the prospect of giving a speech in front of an audience. Therefore, nervousness is considered a normal thing. The main problem here when public speaking is how the speaker controls their nervousness and makes it works rather than against them.
New learning for me here is dealing with nervousness such as thinking positively, using the power of visualization, and so on. But most importantly, do not expect perfection. Since I’m a person who expects perfection and tends to do everything as perfectly as possible, so I’m kind of nervous somehow about making mistakes or whatever. However, after knowing that it’s okay to not always be perfect, my nervousness for having personal speech seems to be somewhat relieved. Together with the tips to be confident given in the video, all of these are so helpful for me, and I think I will be able to handle my nervousness better during my personal speech.
I agree with this one because she express how to write or speak the introduction. She give a lot of tips in presentation. Her slide easy to read. Another one is Dieo. I agree with this comment because I have to use this one to improve my speech too. I am always nervous when I speak to many people.

ReplyDeleteGeneral and specific purpose (Far)
Main idea: general purpose is the board goal of a speech generating into 2 types which are to inform and to persuade. conveying the information and telling knowledge that the audiences have never known before are the goals of informing. However, to persuade people is to make the audiences believe or want to change their attitudes. For the specific purpose, it is one aspect from the general purpose. I will be using this information to improve in my speech this Monday by making sure that my purpose meet direction and relevant to my audiences.
Conclusion (Kaew)
Main idea: conclusion has 2 functions which are to signal the end of the speech and reinforce the central ideas. Using tone and emotion helps the audiences know when it become to the end. Summarize the speech is basically a process of repeat the ideas of the speech. Another, quotation is another good way to end the speech. Next, dramatic statement could help some speeches become more famous with its powerful closing line. Last, referring to the introduction is the wrap up for the audiences.
I will not leave anything in doubt when it comes to he end of my speech and I will also using quote as well.
ID: 6380621 Section: 12
ReplyDelete‘The conclusion’ by Baitoey explains the importance of conclusion, where the closing remarks are our last chance to drive the audience towards our ideas. Near the end of the video, Baitoey also emphasises that the first impression is as crucial as the final impression, which implies how equally essential the conclusion is to the introduction. She has provided ideas on how to let the audience know our speech is coming towards an end. There are some examples given of which I will be applying one of them to my personal speech conclusion, such as by saying “In conclusion”, “My purpose has been” and “Let me end by saying”.
Parts of the ‘General and specific purpose’ video by Phuphing explain the important differences between informative and persuasive speeches. One concept I find very crucial to keep in mind is that the goal of informative topics is for the audience to gain knowledge, not to encourage people to use the knowledge in any specific way. The type of speech I plan to deliver is ‘informative’ of which the goal should be constructed accordingly.
As for the ’The similarities and differences between public speaking and conversation’ tutorial video done by Jenny, the idea I found most interesting was the distinct delivery method of public speaking. She mentions that during conversations, most of us tend to interject stock phrases like ‘um’ and ‘you know’, which is considered inappropriate when delivering a speech to the public. This has reminded me to actively avoid using those phrases when presenting my personal speech.
ID: 6380616 Section: 12
DeleteFor the general and specific purpose topic, I agree, he reminds us to construct a clear goal which is something we should always keep in mind, especially during the process of developing an outline. As you have mentioned, the most important characteristic of informative topics is for the audience to gain knowledge. So when a speaker starts to encourage people to use knowledge in a specific way, this is no longer considered informing but is persuading. Moreover, to achieve these goals (enhance the understanding of the audience, maintain the interest so that the speech is memorable etc..) you can use your key ideas and knowledge as a focal point for everything that is to be included in your speech. Keeping all supporting information organized, on point and everything that is included then must be relevant to your purpose.

ReplyDeleteChoosing a topic(Benz)
Main Idea: Main topics when you need to give a not-prepared speech are subjects you know a lot about. Most people speak best with this subjects because everyone will experience this situation about this topic before taking a speech.Another speech that you would choose is topic you want to know more about. This topic you know about in not that much and you want to learn deeper about it. There are brainstorming procedures. First, personal inventory is the thing will pop up on your mind such as interests, hobbies and skills. Clustering is method that you will take a sheet of paper and list what you will choose. Last, Internet search is the last choice you must do and you need to read it carefully.
Conclusion(Keaw)
Main Idea:There are two main functions. The first is signal the end of the speech which you want to let audience know that you will be in the ending of speech. The most frequently use id In conclusion. Another function is reinforce the central idea. There will be 4 ways to do review. Summarize the speech mean that you restate the main points or central ideas of the topic. Ending with quotation is useful technique to end the speech because if you get a useful quote, your essay will lock perfect. Making a dramatic statement and lastly refer to introduction .
ID: 6380486 section 4
DeleteI agreed about the main points from main topic and conclusion. For main topic, a not-prepared speech is something that you know more about. However, you can also messed it up because of nervous when speaking. Moreover, the two functions of conclusions help the audiences know when it become to the end of the speech.
ID: 6380577 sec: 07
DeleteI totally agree with the idea of conclusion that you should give a signal to the audience when it comes to an end of the speech, and sum up your central idea. It's very important to make the conclusion powerful to make audience realize what's your point of the speech. However, for choosing topic, it seems easy to talk about the fields or story that you already know or familiar with, but sometimes you could be overwhelmed because you know too much about it.
Id 6380521 section4
DeleteTalking with familiar topics could make us feel more confident, and sometimes lacked of preparation, and talking with unfamiliar topics require us to do more research because if we are nervous, we could have done bad speech. For another main point, I also agree that speaker should restate central Idea to make audience get to know more about the true meaning of the speech, and it is good to end with some nice sentences or quotes. Overall, I do agree with them.

ReplyDeleteChoosing a topics (Akhrin Luthra)
Main idea: There are four ways of helping us choose a topic. Firstly, pick a topic you already know about a lot. It can be what you have experienced or what you came across in your life, and I believe that it may be the easiest topic you can speak. This is because you will have a lot of things to say when you have deep knowledge about. Secondly, you may speak about what you want to know more. It can be either something new or something that you already know but need more research. This topic also may have less possibility to struggle with running out of things to say since it is the topic you have the interest in. Next, when you can not think of topics you know or what you are interested in, you can brainstorm in order to get some ideas. Using a paper, divide it into 9 topics, and then write whatever comes to your mind is how brainstorm meant. The last one is using the internet. When you search and somehow get something interesting for you, you may narrow it down and use it as a topic. The brainstorm method was a new thing I learned in this vdo. I never think about getting a sheet of paper and categorize into 9 groups, and write down what comes in my mind. This is very helpful. I will definitely use this method to choose my topic in the future since I used to have a little problem picking topics.
Conclusion (Pornpichar Lomngam)
Main idea: The conclusion which is the last part going to be the climax and final impression of the speech. When a speaker wants to signal the ending, they may end either by crescendo or dissolve the ending. The crescendo ending is when you end a speech with a high voice level, use intense voice and strong emotion which are going to make a huge impact on the audience. In contrast with dissolve ending, you use a gentle tone of voice and softly end the speech. Moreover, there are 4 techniques of reinforcing the central idea. To clarify, you can summarize the speech, use quotations, use dramatic statements, or refer back to the introduction. Last but not least, the conclusion should take 5-10 percent of your speech, no less or more. Also, it will be best if you end with intensity and strong eye contact. I have learned so many things from this vdo such as how much I should include a conclusion in my speech or how many ways I can make a conclusion. I will try my best to end the speech with excitement and intensity, so it is not boring and more powerful. Plus, I may practice more on my eye contact and my voice in order to persuade my audience better.

For the first topic, I agree, Akhrin's video was very helpful. Whenever I am asked to do a writing or speaking assignment, the hardest part for me is always coming up with the topic. Next time I'm required to, I'll definitely try the techniques he taught (thank you, Akhrin!).
As for conclusions, I never put much thought into them, merely using them to just summarize my main points. So, it was quite a shock to learn how essential they are in your speeches. I will use Pornpichar's tips to better implement conclusions in my speeches, as well (thank you, Pornpichar!).

Regarding the first topic, I agree that AK's video helped out a lot because coming up with a topic isn't as simple as ABC and because of his explanation it became more clear

ReplyDeleteAccording to Developing Confidence video, I had learned that nervousness could be a positive force for a speech. As nervousness stopped me from being confident and performed my best, it caused a misunderstanding that I should completely eliminate it during the talk. However, nervousness should be controlled at a right pace in order to maintain the mind and gradually deliver the information. To manage it, I needed to be prepared and shouldn’t overthink about mistakes because there was no perfection.
By watching another video about Speaker Voice, I thought that voice was another complex factor which I needed to concentrate on. As it could bored and confuse the audiences while a speaker was speaking, it could also raise attention and allow listeners to notice our statement as well. In order to control the voice, I should be prepared by practicing with the mirror or my friends and gain more experience from publicly speaking.
I also agree with your point saying that nervousness could be used as a positive force for a speech. As someone who tries hard not to be nervous, which is hard when you can't help but feel it, by converting the negative nervousness to a positive could make a huge difference!
DeleteAs to your second video comment, I cannot stress how voice and tone is important. I agree with you a hundred percent because I get bored easily and when speakers use these complex factor and the right tone for the right mood, it makes the presentation very effective than before.

Choosing a Topic_AK
There are many ways to choose a topic. This includes choosing to speak of topics familiar to you or topics you are curious about. Brainstorming and searching on the internet can also be of help.
For me, it has always been difficult to choose a topic whenever I am faced with these kinds of assignments. I don’t find my life special or any different from another average person so I have always thought that my stories will be boring. I haven’t had the chance to experience a lot of things in life as well, which is why I find myself struggling to choose a topic. However, I learnt from the video that as long as I find ways to engage with my audience, any topic I speak of will not be boring. By engaging with my audience, I am interacting with them and making them relate to my stories. More importantly, I should choose topics that I am familiar with or am interested in. This will show how enthusiastic I am to speak of it and my audience will be able to see my enthusiasm and sincerity.
Introductions_Justin
Introductions are very important. They capture the attention of the audience, reveal the topic, and establish your credibility. The introduction should show the importance and significance of the topic. It should arouse curiosity from the audience, which this can done by beginning with a story, a quote, or a question. One thing to look out for is to clearly state the topic and avoid confusion.
Body aside, the introduction is also crucial. If we fail to capture the attention of our audience, then no one will be listening to our speech. They would not be able to relate to our topic and understand the significance of it. From this video, I learnt that even if my topic is not that relatable to my audience, I can make them care about my topic by stating its importance. By stating the importance of the topic, explaining why they should care about this topic, I will have their attention. I can apply this to my personal speech by developing my introduction according to what I have learnt.
I agree with this person's view on the significance of an introduction and I like her take that even if it isn't as relatable to the audience, we can make them care by stating the importance. This is something I might start doing more often.

ReplyDeletePracticing delivery - Supawan
The idea is basically practicing in order to improve your speech. I learned about 5 steps on how to practice speaking before going to the fields. The first tip is the preparation outline, it is important to look at the overall of your speech to see if it is in good length or is the content related and how it turns from text to speech. Next, create a speaking outline as a keyword just to know where you are and give the idea about what you are going to talk about next, also do not forget to comment yourself. The third step, the most important, is practicing. Regardless of mistakes that are made, just keep practicing until you make the least mistakes and have more confidence, and ensure that you cover all the important points. The fourth step is practice speaking in front of a mirror or people around you to see your facial expressions and body language so you will be able to fix the way you want to be when you are speaking. What is new for me is the final step which is to stimulate your speech like speaking in a real situation. It will benefit in the way of getting used to it, try to set the same set up as much as possible to feel comfortable in that setting. Moreover, try not to learn the speech word by word and put the work into it because there is no one night miracle. Overall, I could adapt these methods in practicing my speech by keeping practicing and practice in front of a mirror which I believe that I could address the mistake that I make and fix it.
Confidence - Cher
The idea of this speech is getting to know and overcome the nervousness in order to be confident. Nervousness is normal and everyone has it, even many famous public speakers but they learned to control it. We can not eliminate the nervousness but can learn to deal with it. There are various methods to deal with nervousness. Gaining experiences in public speaking to get used to the nervousness when speaking. Be prepared for your speech that you are going to speak about it as much as you can. Positive thinking is also another way because if you say you can do it means you can. Visualize yourself successfully speaking to learn how to control your nervousness while on stage. Do not think about the nervousness to avoid panicking and remember that perfection does not exist if you make a mistake just keep continuing because if you focus on your mistakes you might make another mistake. These steps would help me to improve my personal speech because I learn how to deal with nervousness in basics, and it is very important for a beginner speaker like me.
ID: 6380002 Sec:07
DeleteI would like to agree with the point about practicing delivery that stimulating a real situation can really be helpful and something that I have never done before. It is also something unique and new to me, and it makes sense because you are essentially doing it until you are familiar or comfortable with the speech in its environment.
ID: 6380577 sec:07
DeleteI totally agree with the confidence point! Nervousness is common for public speaking, and I learned that visualizing myself speaking perfectly really help me not to freak out from nervousness. I felt more confident during giving the speech even though I made a mistake, and it's normal to make a mistake.

DeleteID: 6380583
I also think that stimulating practice speech like speaking in real time( in front of everyone) is interestingly new and will be helpful every time we prepare for the speech. We often practice with friends or with ourselves in front of the mirror, but those ways lack feeling of being in front of everyone or the pressure. By following these steps completely, I think It will help lower my mistakes and lead me to succeed giving effective speech in the future better as well.

*The Power of Public Speaking - Kittichet*
I’ve always preferred writing over speech, but after watching Kittichet’s video, I learned that public speaking is a much more effective tool than I thought. Aside from helping to better express one’s ideas and serving as an effective persuasive tool, good communication skills are a highly desirable and important trait in the workplace. Now that social media platforms have seemingly shifted most forms of communication towards writing, verbal communication skills have become a way to stand out. From now on, I’m going to be focusing a lot more on my communication skills instead of just my writing skills. I will try my best to ‘harness the power’ of public speaking to use in my personal speech, future assignments and for the rest of my life.
*Conclusions - Pornpichar*
As someone who generally puts a minimal amount of effort writing conclusions for my essays and presentations, I now feel like I have been ignoring one of the most important parts of a speech. I was always of the opinion that a strong body (in speech, mind you) was one of the most critical parts of any speech. However, I learned that the conclusion is actually much more important than I thought, determining whether or not the central idea will be reinforced in the minds of the audience, and how long it will linger in their minds after the speech is over. As of now, I’m going to put more care and attention into my conclusions, both for writing and public speaking.
ID: 6380621 Section: 12
DeleteAs for the ‘Conclusion’ part, I agree with your comment that it should be noted as equally important as the introduction, however, even more so than the body of a speech. After watching the video on this particular topic made by one of my classmates, I also had to change parts of my conclusion, specifically for the audience to recognise that the speech is coming towards an end. After a few alterations, I could see a positive difference in the effectiveness of the conclusion I aimed to send across.
Student ID: 6380680 Section: 4
DeleteFor the power of public speaking, I also have a similar idea that writing would be better. However, speaking was another way of communicating which allowed the receivers or the audience to see and hear the idea from the authors or the speakers themselves. As the listener, I could perceive the expression and listen to the tone as well as the presentation which provided a closer connection. On the other side, the speaker could illustrate their content in a more straightforward and fascinating way.
ID#6380225 Section#07
DeleteFor me, public speaking is such a powerful tool and very effective but it is not easy to achieve the high level of public speaking so I need to improve on that part too. I agree with the conclusion that it is pretty much an important part to conclude the main idea and all the topics and still leave a strong impression and impact to the audience.
ID:6281466 Sec:04
DeleteAt first, I thought that public speaking is not that much important, now i change my thinking after reading this.
I would focus more on public speaking rather than writing skill.

ReplyDeleteChoosing a topics (Akhrin Luthra)
There are four main ways which helps us choose a good topic as AK explains. First is by speaking about a topic we are knowledgeable about because it makes the topic more connected to us as a speaker and we can connect our personal experience with the topic. Second is by focusing more on the parts of the topic which we don’t know much about. This will help us broaden our knowledge about the topic as a speaker as well as there will be no shortage of information. In addition, if we are running out of ideas about a topic, we should brainstorm and write our thoughts down to make a decision. Lastly use the internet or the resources to widen our range of options for the topic to make it more relevant to us as a speaker. I think all this information was really helpful for me as a student and it will also help me in future for deciding a good topic. Overall I think AK does a good job explaining all of these and I agree with the ideas that he presented.
Introductions_Justin
Introduction is perhaps one on the most important stage when it comes to presentations. This is because you start to unfold your topic and show your credibility as a speaker to the audience. In addition, introduction is perhaps the first impression of audience on you, so if you have the introduction right it will help both speaker and audience throughout the whole presentation. Overall Justin sums up the topic of introduction well by teaching us different techniques as of how I as a speaker can improve my introduction. I will definitely take his suggestions into considerations and apply it to my personal speech.

DeleteI agree that by putting those 4 factors together it will create a good speech with combination of what you know, what you do not, and the research which would come together as a good structure topic. I think this would be beneficial to be when I am giving a speech because it would help point the structure out for me.
I agree with the 4 main ways in choosing a good topic. I think by choosing a topic which connect to us help deliver emotion and idea better. I also think that choosing a controversial topic could be useful as it will be something that can easily get people attention.

ReplyDeleteMethod of delivering
This is just a basic way of how to conduct a speech. Reading from a manuscript is a method that focusing on the richness of the content of the script because the reader is reading off a script which seem like the presenter do not have a good connection with the audience. Reciting from memory, the common type of speech, because the dialogue which comes from the presenter memory so it will flow naturally. Speaking important is a method of using voice as the main source to let the audience know the point with little or no preparation. Extemporaneously is similar to impromptu but different in techniques, this technique required practice. I have just learned that there are 4 types because before taking this class I thought that there are only 2 types which are the script one and the memory one. These difference type of giving speech require different skill, which is also depend on the presenter.
Second video:
The introduction
Very important because this is the first impression of the speech. A good introduction means more interested from the audience. The goal are get attention/interest, reveal the topic, establish, and preview. Getting attention means you have to grab the audience attention by relate it to the audience, state why is it important, ask a question, and many more. Reveal the topic means you have to state your topic clearly because it is important to let your audience have an idea first. Establish means you have to show that your speech is trustworthy. Preview means you should signal or let the audience know that you are about to get into the points. This is kind of a basic idea of what you should put in your introduction because this is what the audience will hear first before anything.

I kinda have the same idea with him/her that I have never known that there are four different types of giving speech. But the one that I prefer the most is reciting from memory because I think this kind of speech do not require much in the skills but practices.
For the second video which is an introduction. I completely agree from what he/she said that this is an important part because it is the first impression of the speech. If you can get attention from the audiences since the beginning, they tend to pay attention to your speech till the end of the speech.

For the central idea. In our speech the important thing is central idea it should be a simple sentences and can be define the whole speech. I learned from the central ideas should not be in question form and the central ideas should be narrow enough to make listeners understand about the topic of the speech. I can apply to the personal speech by narrow down the central ideas so listeners can easily understand what the topic is. For me, to improve next assignments speech is to make central ideas to be simple and narrow so, the listeners will known what I'm talking about and lastly, make the central ideas be in a complete sentences.
Another video is speech delivery it is a nonverbal communication which is based on how we use voice and body gesture. The idea that I get from this video is that speakers voice have many aspects such as volume, pitch, rate, pauses, vocal variety, pronunciation, articulate and dialect. Body of speaker also important because speaker should have a good gestures and eye contact. To apply to the personal speech speaker should have eyes contact to the audiences all the time and voice should not be in a monotone. To improve in the forward assignments is practice about gestures, eyes contact and voices because it is important for audience to follow.
I agreed that the way we speak and how we express through body language are very important on public speaking because it could totally tell the audiences what we meant naturally, however, I think we could sometimes look up as we think and maybe look at notes. Yes, eye contact is very important but I just don't think we have to look at the audiences all the time. Sorry for the disagreement :)

DeleteI agree with you that the central idea should be simple and easy to understand, so the audience will not confuse about the topic and what are you trying to say. For the speech delivery, I also agree that body language and eye contact are important because if you keep making eye contact with the audience, you will know that the audience is still with you or not or whether they confuse or understand about the topic that you are talking.
6380458 sec12: I agree with the idea of the central idea concept that the central idea should clarify overall of the speech. Also speakers should represent the central idea in a simple sentence to make it easier to understand, however, they should make it straight to the point for deep understanding at the same time.

In the video, she mentioned about an interesting of "get attention and interest" from the audience in the introduction. The introduction should catch audiences' interest so that they can stay interested throughout your whole speech. She provided some of the methods that often used, which is really helpful so that I can get my audiences' attention right away. She also mentioned if the introduction is poor could lead to audience potentially loses interest right away. I think this is really important and could be crucial for my speech. I will take this suggestion and apply it to my personal speech.
Choosing a Topic_Sea
In the video, she explained the methods and thinking process of how to come up with a Topic. She divided into 2 groups; topics you know a lot about and topics you want to explore. Throughout the video, she explained it clearly with example provided. I learned about the brainstorming methods. I didn't know before about how I can narrow my topics down, but in this video, she provided me 3 methods to do that. It includes personal inventory, clustering, and internet search. These methods can definitely help me improve on my future work and come up with interesting topic for my speech.

I agree with you that the introduction is very important since it must have a clear statement of what you want to deliver to the audience. Choosing a topic is also important when you need to relate the topic to your audience. I think knowing your audience would help you make your choice easier.

ReplyDeleteThe Introduction - EingEing
Getting attention from the audiences may boost confidence, as EingEing said at the beginning of the video. After watching this video, I have learned that the introduction has four objectives: getting attention and interest, revealing the topic, establishing credibility and goodwill, and previewing the body of the speech. She included a quote while she explained it and demonstrated a clear example. She added some tips for designing a good introduction which may help me to improve my speech more or less.
The conclusion - Baitoey
I always think that conclusion is the hardest part for both essays and speeches. In this video, she talked about making the audience impressed after finishing the conclusion of the speech. At the beginning of the video, she had a quote as an introduction to the topic. She said that we must be as careful with the conclusion as the introduction. The things that I have learned from this video are some significant functions of the conclusion that it works as a signal for ending up speeches and reinforcing the central idea to make the audiences understand. Moreover, she gave some tips for concluding. For example, we can have a creative conclusion to touch the audiences’ hearts. Also, the essential point for me is that we should not leave anything unclear in the conclusion after we stop the speeches.
ID: 6380616 Section: 12
DeleteFor the conclusion topic, yes, I think the presentation was well explained along with her clear examples. It is important to reinforce the central idea to help aid the audiences understanding and being creative at how we end the speech was another great tip. With all the preparation for the outline and the whole speech, some people might actually leave their main points unclear towards the end of the speech which is something important that can easily looked over from time to time, and shouldn’t be. I think the conclusion may not be the hardest part for speech specifically, but if you left the audience with an ineffective conclusion, the speech loses its purpose and meaning, so it’s pretty important. This is the speaker’s final chance to really drive home the message and truly aids audience’s memory of their speech.
I agree that Eing-Eing can gain the audience attention pretty good. The way she speaks is very easy to understand. Also, how she explained was pretty clear, and helps me learn a lot from the lesson she taught

Central Idea:
The statement that reveals your main points is commonly known as the central idea statement. That was easy to understand, and I agree with what First has explained in the video. You will need to clearly state what your focus and main points are going to be. The central idea statement helps focus your presentation by defining your topic, direction, and purpose. As he mentioned for the example, if your speech is about sports, your central idea could be basketball. In my opinion, this is one of the significant roles in speech because if we do not narrow down the topic, finding the purpose may be difficult as the topic gets broader.
Choosing a topic:
Throughout the video, Sea has clearly explained ways to cope up with how to choose a topic from both method and thinking process. Earlier I was having a difficult time narrowing down the topics, her video helped me a lot. I do not usually do much brainstorming, but the methods (personal inventory, clustering, and internet search) she shared in the video were interesting, so I think it might worth a try and help me in the future.

I agree with you that the central idea is really important since it informs the audience of what the topic and main points are. If the central idea is unclear, the audience could have a hard time figuring out the topic. I also relate to you when choosing a topic for my speech. I do recommend you to try brainstorming. I think it helps quite a lot.
6380458 Sec12: I agree with the choosing topic idea. Everyone should choose the suitable topic for themselves since everyone has a different background, so the stated methods are really helpful and help the speaker to narrow down the topic for the deeper knowledge presentation. Also, the brainstorming method is very useful and I can definitely apply it to many work processes as well.

Introduction:
Introduction is very important and should be crafted interestingly. There are several ways to do this either by questions, quotes, or stories. However, we need to be sure to keep it short, clear, and simple. I personally could apply the way of story telling to my speech as well as making sure to relate it to the audience
The central idea:
The sentence that capture the whole speech that aim for the audience to remember. The central idea should come in a full sentence and not a question. To apply this to my personal speech, I would make sure that my central idea cover up all the main points.

ReplyDeleteMethods of delivery: by watching this video, it talk about how can we prepare the speech in a different ways. One technique that seems very interesting and challenging is the impromptu technique. This style is the best way for the speaker to make it natural for the listener, however, it can be tricky. As this technique requires lot of memories and words in your brain, it needs lot of experience to achieve it. The trick that is also got form this video is that " practices makes perfect". Every speech need lots of experience in order to gain more confidence and deliver the message more perfectly.
Speaker body: In this video, there are lots of useful information on how you should act and positioned when you have to give a speech. I agree with your points. It's quite difficult for me to speak if I've been put on the spot (impromptu style), so it's amazing to watch impromptu speakers like debaters speak. And, you're right, while practice does make perfect, a great speaker is one who is experienced. However, I do believe that confidence plays a large role in delivery as well, and that speakers can be confident even without a ton of experience.
As for the second video, this was quite useful to me as well. I usually try to keep eye contact with audiences if I'm doing a presentation, but my body movements are pretty stiff and uninteresting. It's probably pretty boring to watch someone speak with their arms by their sides for the entire presentation. So, I'll do my best to use more gestures and movement in my speeches.

DeleteImpromptu speaking is one of the challenging methods of delivery. However, since it is impromptu, people hardly expect on the quality of the speech. On the other hand, reading from a script can be a lot more challenging in my opinion. People expect more perfection from the speech in every aspect including pronunciation, grammar, communication skill, and etc.

Choosing a Topic - Sea
There are two ways to choose the topic of public speaking. The first one is to choose the topic that you already have the knowledge about it or familiar with it, such as your experience. Another one is to choose the topic that you want to know more about it and do more research. In the end, if you still cannot choose the topic, brainstorming is another way to come up with a good topic. For me, I find that choosing the topic is quite difficult. I spend a lot of time deciding what I should talk about. However, after I list down all of the topics in my head, I can see which one that I can develop further in my speech.
The Conclusion - Baitoey
The conclusion is as important as the introduction because it is the last chance to explain your idea. To conclude your speech, the first way is to give the signal to the audience that you are coming to the end of your speech, and another way is to give more support to your idea. After watching this video, I realized that I should improve my conclusion by saying some word phrase that can tell the audience that I nearly end my speech.

ReplyDeleteGeneral Purpose and Specific Purpose: After watching the video I was able to gather information from this presenter that to figure the purposes of our speech we must understand what we're trying to convey when we're speaking whether it may be to inform, or to persuade by figuring out of General Purpose we then can figure out our specific purpose and how to state it clearly for our audience to know.
Speaker Body: After watching the video I became more aware on how I should act and position myself when it comes to giving a speech, whether it may be Gestures, Movements, Appearance, or even eye contact, because all of these are important when it comes to public speaking. Following all of that the most important thing to do before giving a speech is to prepare yourself because your body languages gives it out if you're not prepared/prepared.
6380087 section12
DeleteI agree about the essential of knowing the purpose. If the speaker do not know why he/she want to spread out this message, the audience won’t understand those messages either. The speaker must be clear by him/herself and also tell the audience the reason why they should listen to them at the beginning of the speech. In my opinion, this also enhance sincerity and confidence of the speaker, showing to the audience.
I totally agree with the aspect of body language and preparation too. Body language during the speech can show credibility and profession of the speaker. It reflect on how well the speaker prepare for their speech.

ReplyDeleteIntroduction- Justin
The introduction is one of the most important parts of your speech. It could make the audience decided to continue to listen or not. These are the significant points that a good introduction needs to have. Firstly, a good introduction must capture the attention of the audience by relating the story to the audience or arousing the audience’s curiosity. Also, be sure that you have mentioned the topic of your speech. Next is to establish credibility to make the audience know the source of the information. Lastly, give some preview of the body of your speech to let the audience know speech outline. This video provides many ways that you can use in your speech which some of them I didn’t know before. I also use some of the tips from Justin to improve my speech introduction to make my speech more interesting, like begin the speech with telling story.
Conclusion- Pornpichar
The conclusion is also a vital part of the speech that contains the climax of the story and conclude the main ideas of the speech. The conclusion can be used as the signal for ending your speech to make the audience know that the speaker going to end the speech. You may need to use eye contact and voice with the audience to make your speech more impactful. Additionally, to reinforce the central idea you can do it by summarizing the speech or using a quotation. In conclusion, I got much new knowledge from this video, like how to make my conclusion more effective and knowing that even the conclusion, still needs strong eye contact with the audience.
I agree on the opinions about the introduction on this comment. This article captures the video and summarize it’s main point well. I feel like Justin is a very good speaker, his voice is very clear and he speaks English perfectly. His speech is written to be informative and easy to understand.
DeleteI agree with the point about the conclusion in this comment. I think the conclusion is very important as it's the part that help remind the audience of what we have been trying to say. I always wondered if there was any way to get rid of the nervousness and been searching for the answer. But, after watching the video, I found that nervousness is normal and we might not be able to get rid of it, but able to control and reduce it. I already know that I can reduce my nervousness by preparing well, but the video teaches me new knowledge that I can get better by thinking positively. When I get to do a presentation or speech, I always think negatively. For example, I will say something wrong today or think that people might not like what I'm going to talk about, which makes me get more nervous and forget what I wanted to say. Moreover, I realised that I shouldn't be searching for perfection. This is because I always want things to be perfect and it gets me into stress and wasn't able to do well. Therefore, on my speech day, I will try to think positive and stop thinking that my speech needs to be perfect. I will just try my best and show how confident I am to the audience.
Conclusion
Conclusion has 2 functions including signal the end of the speech and reinforcing the central idea. It was always a problem for me to start talking about the conclusion, but after watching the video, I realised that the use of tone is important as I can use my voice to build the momentum of the speech and use the emotion to make the audience remember what I want to convey to them. This is because the audience would only remember a few parts from our speech, so using the emotion in the sentence will make the audience remember the key point that is hard to forget. In addition, I learned that using a quotation at the end is one way to end the speech as it can make an impact on the audience's emotion and make them think further. Also, ending with a dramatic statement is one of the effective ways if you want to use your own statement. I think I will end my speech with a dramatic statement because I want to create a unique ending, so this is one of the best choices I can choose from.

The video on this particular topic is quite refreshing, and I personally think that it is a great reminder for us not to aim for perfection when delivering our speech. In fact, it has taught me that while hoping for a good outcome, the goal is to just present the speech with confidence and offer our best efforts.
Moreover, I would like to add that from my colleague’s video on this topic, I had learned that some of the most successful public speakers also have to deal with nervousness from time to time. It was quite surprising to me as I used to believe otherwise. ReplyDeletePracticing Delivery
I have learned that from practice deliver a speech will make our speech better. It can be done in many ways such as prepare the outline first to be able to know the scope of the speech and the main idea of the speech to see if all the topic is related. Then making the speech easy to read and also give yourself a comment about it. Next keep practicing like go through the entire speech until you are sure enough about it as well as practice it in front of your friends to listen to the comments and improve it. Lastly, set yourself a time to practice under the same conditions as the real situations and the speaker will get used to it. For me, I have been practicing my speech by looking at the outline or even write down the script because it is easy for me to remember my speech better except the part where I have to practice my own speech in front of someone. It’s new for me because I thought that having to practice speaking my speech repeatedly to my friend is kind of embarrassing and because I could not be able to get through due to my nervousness. However, in this personal speech, I asked my friend to listen to my speech and give a comment about it. It is pretty helpful since I can improve my speech to make it more perfect.
Developing Confidences
For developing confidences through our speech is one of the most obstacles things in my life but it is normal for people to feel nervous and anxious during our speech or having a stage fright. However, dealing with our nervousness is important than eliminating our feelings of stage fright but by treating nervousness in a positive way. First, having experience beforehand reduce the nervousness we have during speech as we get used to the environment then prepare yourself a speech that related or that you care about. Next is thinking positively because it will help with mindset about having to overcome those stage fright. Besides that try to imagine the success after finish the whole speech because just thinking about the good outcome will probably calm our mind. Next, our nervousness is invisible because no one would probably pick it up so be confident about it. Lastly, do not expect for the perfection because not everything that we say go according to our script, just go with the flow and be positive about it. At first, I was not confident about my own speech because I overthinking too much but I will definitely change my mindset about having to concern over things that I have no idea what’s going to happen in the real situation.
I also struggle with developing confident as well, according to my personality. I always feel nervous when I need to speak in the public. However, the solutions that I have watched for this video save my life during my speech, like having experience before hand or keep thinking positively. Even though, I still feel nervous at sometimes but it was much better than before. Thanks for providing me a good tips.

ReplyDeleteSpeech Communication Process - Pooh
From the video, I learned that there are elements of speech communication and how each of the speech communication aspects related to everyone conversation. Having knowledge to talk about(speaker), massage(expressing and content of the message), channel (the medium), listener (the audience), feedback (responses from the audiences), interference( self-explanatory) and situation (the surrounding, tension, atmosphere, etc.). I can safely say that I can identified each of the aspects for my speech, for example, the content of my speech is the message and I would be the speaker. These 7 aspects is easy to identified and actually very relatable not just to the personal speech task, but to other types of communication itself.
Choosing a topic - Sea
I learned that there's actually categories in the ways of choosing a topic. It's separate into "topic that we know about" and "topic that you want to know about". There's also brain storming which can be classified into three further categories which are personal inventory, clustering and internet search. For my personal speech, I actually used "topic that we know about" as I already had some background knowledge on negative effects of meat consumption and had a personal background related to it already. In the first place, choose a topic that we are familiar with or in other words, the one we’re knowledgeable so it will be easier for you to show the audiences the connection between you and your topic. Second, choose the topic you want to know more about or interested in. This can be either what you have never known before or something you already know but want to explore more in a larger field. Also, I learned that the way to pick a topic when you have nothing in your mind is to brainstorm so that you can have various ideas before you pick one. I gladly say that everything in the video is new to me. All of life, I believed main points are just main points which can be delivered only single way. After watching this video, I realised that there are different kinds of main points and each kind serves different purposes. Now that I am aware of them, I know how to use the right method to deliver speech logically and effectively. However, there is another thing I have learned from the video that I find it very useful for my personal speech. She suggested me to balance my time which I neglected and did not even think of it.
2. Central Idea
Honestly, while making the personal speech’s outline, I had no idea how to distinguish the central idea from the specific purpose. So, I did it based on my own understanding. After watching, I got a chance to rethink about my personal speech again and improve it. I have learned that central idea needs to be specific and detailed at an extend or else it would be too general. Moreover, I have been told a few guidelines that are very beneficial for my personal speech and my future speeches. For example, the central idea should be expressed in a full sentence. It seems to be a very s=common guideline but it has actually been my weakness.

The central idea is a one-sentence statement that sums up the major idea of a speech. It works like a thesis statement that includes the major thoughts of the speech. It should give clear ideas of what the speaker is delivering to the audience. Also, it should be in full sentences and not a question. At first, I had no idea what is a central idea, and what’s the difference between a central idea and a specific sentence. Now I would think of the central idea as a thesis statement and it is longer and more detailed than a specific sentence. The central idea is basically a short-form summary of what the speaker is going to talk about.
Practicing delivering
The effective ways to practice your speech are to practice it in the right way. Try to make the speech easy to understand and remember. I think connectives are important and could be useful in my personal speech because it keeps the reader on track and has a backbone to the story that I am telling. However, when listening to the explanation, I was convinced that eye contact play a major role and by looking into the mirror, you are keeping your eye level leveled, and it looks like I am confident by being able to look at the audiences in their eyes. I can improve my speech with practicing in front a mirror to have a natural connection with the listeners.

DeleteMy first speech was filled with nervousness especially with my siblings around me near the screen. I was able to express my points through story telling and I think I did achieve my objection in informing the importance of accepting and finding self-love. With adding a point to what my classmate had suggested to make my lighting better was something that I could improve in the next presentation. I also could take some time to think about my voice, and pace throughout the speech and maintain a better flow. Overall, I gave my best at it and I think people were related and understanding of my topic and it was nice actually getting out of my comfort zone to share and express my feelings and thoughts.
The two videos I have shared earlier in the paragraph helped me improve my personal speech. I realized even through zoom, making sure I had eye contact with the viewers and to look infant rather than down or looking elsewhere. In addition, the flow was better using connectives and had a better organization.

DeleteI agree that the use of connectives is important. Without using it, the audience can lose track and get confused easily.
Practising in front of the mirror is really helpful when you're giving a speech because I have tried it before. At first, I felt weird doing it, but as you mentioned it helps to gain more confidence looking into the audience eyes.

I agree that connectives are very important because without it, the audience could have a hard time understanding, or even get confused
Practicing is key because it helps us prep when it comes to the real thing, I usually practice in front of my mirror so that I can use myself as an audience and also to check whether or not I'm making any eye contact to myself and to check or other things, but in all it helps out a lot

DeleteI agree on your point.Connectives are words or phrases that join the thoughts of a speech together and indicate the relationship between them. Connectives are essential to help the audience focus on main ideas without having them guess which ideas the speaker thinks are important. The audience is able to tune into what points the speaker has talked about and what point the speaker is presently talking about. When a speaker uses connectives properly the speech will flow smoothly and make complex ideas understandable. Each speech should contain the following four connectives: transitions, internal previews, internal summaries, and signposts.
Introduction - EYE
ReplyDeleteGet the attention and interest of your audience. The first is to relate the topic to your audience. It can get the attention of the audience. Set the clear topic because the audience will not pay attention when they do not know or cannot follow the topic.Startle your listeners with the arresting or intriguing statement. This technique is easy to use and get more attention. Using the quotation to get attention from the audience. Tell the story. People like to listen to the story. If you talk about the story the listeners will like and pay attention. I think This one is a good technique because I use this to adapt it. I tell a story and listeners want to listen to my story. This one is a good technique.
Connective - Kansiri
Transition is a word or phase that indicates finishing one thought and moving to another idea. Next is Internal preview is the statement in the body of the speech that lets the audience know what the speaker is going to discuss next. Internal summaries summarize the speaker’s preceding point. I think this one I use only transitions. The transitions can lets listeners know this is the next topic. They can follow my speech easier. I will improve my speech by use the internal preview and summarize.

Presenting by using a quote and storytelling also inspired the audience as well as allowing them to comprehend the speaker's background about the reason he or she decided on the topic.

This presentation is quite clear, and there are many informations. This make me have more knowledge how to conclude in the presentation, and I also prefer that she gave a tips for me. However, in my opinion, I think that the slides should reduce the word because it have a lot of words in one slide. This make me is confused to listen her, and look slide in the same times. Plus, the format of slide looks weird because kaew usually use every middle format, so she should fix in the next presentation. Overall, it looks good, including her intonation, pronunciation, and confidents. Even if she have a little dead air, she can fix, and talk continually.

ReplyDeleteSpeaker’s Body by Gun
There are 4 physical aspects which are personal appearance , movement, gesture and eye contact. I realized that the personal appearance is the first thing to make a good first impression so we have to wear something that is suitable for the speech. What I can apply in my speech is that where something that looks more formal even what we have done is an online speech but it still sees some part of our clothes. Therefore, to make a first impression and to make other people think positively, I am supposed to wear something that also respects the audience which is obviously a crop top or a spaghetti strap.
Speaker’s voice by Bay
Each person has their own voice which depends on many aspects; volum, pitch, rate, pause, vocal variety, pronunciation, articulation and dialect. Each of it has its own importance and each person has a different voices, tone. He also mentioned that in the articulation part we should avoid saying wanna and gonna we should say want to and going to instead. I believe that this point is significant because I am the one who always keep use the informal contractions and always talk in monotone when I was lack of confidence so to make my voice speech sounds interesting, I supposed to try to use those 8 aspects that have mentioned above to improve my speech

ReplyDeleteCrafting a Good Introduction
In this video, which was very well delivered by the way, I learned a lot about the importance of having a good introduction. This is because the introduction is basically how you give off your first impression to your audience. One thing new that I have really learned is the importance of how you relate your topic to your audience. I never really thought about this before. Even something like the arousal of curiosity never crossed my mind before. It makes sense because whenever things would relate to me or stroke my curiosity, I would usually listen. As they say, curiosity killed the cat right? Another new thing that was new to me in speeches is to establish goodwill and previewing my speech. These are things I don't think I've done before. These things are definitely things I would look to improve on in my speeches. Before, I never really thought about these techniques and would always do things the same way I've been doing.
Practicing Delivery:
As someone who rarely practices their speeches in the past, this topic really stood out to me. Especially since it has been at least 2 years since I've given a proper speech of any significance in front of people. So, I decided to try to learn some new things from this video on practicing the delivery of speeches. To me, the imperfections in speeches usually are the things that make it perfect. One thing I have learned is the importance of outlines, whether it be speaking outline or preparation outline. This is important for me and has been something which many people have told me since I tend to lack organization sometimes. It also helps to have speaker notes, but it is something I have rarely done, so I might use the presentation pictures in my upcoming speech to test this out. The other things like mirror mirror on the wall and set it up are things like I have rarely done because I have always been a procrastinator. So, possibly, if I practice my delivery more often based on some of the techniques given, it could be better as a result.

ReplyDeleteThe speaker Body (Lakshya)
The body language of the speaker is very important as it can elevate the speaker to look more professional in front of the audience. Moreover, it can help the speaker become more relax and confident during the speech. First things that the audience will see before the speaker even speak is personal appearance, wear a proper cloth can help you look more professional or entertainment cloth if it can connect to your topic. This can make you look credible and help you catch the attention of the audience. Furthermore, movement while you speak is also important, be calm and move confidently so you do not distract your audience by pacing back &forth or looking at a note. This show that you really practice speech and watch to present in front of them. Gesture is also one part of the movement, do not swing of move your arms & hands unnatural, be natural and smooth. Last, eye contact is one of the keys that can benefits you a lot during the speech, smile while you speak and look at everyone, do not make the eye contact to only person the whole speech. This can reward you as making the audience feel like you give them truthfulness, intelligence and feeling towards them.
Introduction (Justin copeland)
Introduction is the first thing the audience will get to listen to so it could decide if the audience will listen to you or not and show what you are going to present about your topic. Relate the topic to your audience is one way to catch the audience attention because people care the things that affect them directly. Moreover, inform them how your important topic to them so they want to continue listen the speech by asking question, quotation or even the story so they could find your topic interest. All of this information can help the listener preview and ready to listen to the main part of your speech.

DeleteI totally agree with you with the point that say personal appearance in the speech was really important, being in a proper dress can make the speaker looks more professional. Moreover, it can make the speaker more shining out. However, you need to wear something that match with your speech and situation. Sometimes, most of the people forgot to think about their appearance but this video make me feel that we should consider this point as well. ;)

ReplyDeleteConclusion
As I could catch, conclusion is one of the most important parts in speech because it included the central idea of the speech and also as the main points. It is not just a summary of the speech but also to reinforce the ideas to show the audience what is important in that speech. Without a good conclusion, the audience might be left confused about what exactly are the major points that the speaker talks about. After I watched the video, I want to emphasize how important the conclusion is in my speech by rearranging some of the ideas and some points that I have not mentioned to reinforce the ideas that I want to leave the audience to remember. Moreover, the crescendo ending technique is very suitable for my type of speech since it could build up the tensity in emotion and leave the audience with some emotional quotes to end the speech.
Confidence
The focus of this speech is building up confidence by dealing or getting used to it. Understanding that nervousness is totally normal for every public speaker, even some of the experienced public speakers such as Oprah Winfrey. We can not completely get rid of the nervousness so is not it better to learn to live with it. I have learned to control my nervousness with some of the appropriate techniques that I might be able to adapt with my speech. For example, positive thinking is very helpful because it distracts your attention from nervousness and helps calm you down. If you keep thinking about the failure it will drag you down with that way of thinking but instead if you think about you being successful it will push you through with that visualization.
Learning to deal with nervousness is really necessary and helpful. I used to have a lack of confidence before still a little now but I tried to overcome this fear and keep experience speaking with people that I don't or participate in class discussion. It really help me with getting used to the nervousness and control it better!

His tutorial on confidence really provided insight on what can be achieve when someone can overcome nervouseness. Being nervous happens to the best of us and is completely normal if you're someone who is not exposed to the environment of public speaking often. One of the many ways to overcome nervousness is to make sure you're prepared in what you'll be saying. Following on being prepared, its also best to mentally prepare yourself as well. Calming ones mind can bring them into the mindset that there is nothing to worried about because they ensure themselves that everything will go well. Personally I do struggle with confidence. I tend to shiver in nervousness and sometimes it affects my delivery on my speech. This indicates that I need to work on calming my body and mind all together, to be in a state of calmness that also expresses confidence.
Introduction (Eye)
A good introduction truly sets the stage to your presentation. It captures the attention of your audience, drawing them in more to listen to what you have to say. Establishing a clear topic in the introduction will be the first thing that builds up their expectation. This can be done by doing something unexpected or expressively captivating clear statment or question to grap the attention to your audience, the only limit is the extent of ones creativity. Like every speech, it must have be told with a beginning, middle, and end. Your speech must be able to guide them thoroughly through your topic. It should be delivered in a way that is fluid so that audiences can go along with the flow without straying away. These techniques are great examples that I can implement into my own speech as well because this is what is really needed to get the audience to really listen.
ID:6380205 Sec 4
DeleteI agree that you need to be mentally prepared before doing a speech and it is also important that you have positive thinking as well since it can reduce the stress and help your body to get calmer. I understand you well when you get shiver because I also experienced it before, but practice is the best way to get better at this.

I agree that positive thinking is really crucial in speech (and also in life). If one is to constantly think negatively before delivering their speech, it would most definitely affect the nearing presentation. I struggle a lot with public speaking. So what I do is practice. I practice and practice and practice. I also mentally prepare myself before the speech to calm myself down. Even so, I still shiver and shake when I present my speech. These things are normal. But I push through to finish my speech so that I have no regrets later.
I also agree that a good introduction sets the stage to the presentation. If it fails to capture the attention of the audience, then no one will be listening during the body and they will be completely lost.

In this blog, I will reflect on Kanwara’s and Napat’s presentation
First, for Kanwara’s, she’s presenting about developing confidences while giving public speech.
First, for Kanwara’s, she’s presenting developing confidences. I learned that having nervousness before speaking publicly is absolutely normal. In my entire life, I did not know how to control them. She taught me various ways to deal with it such as thinking that we will succeed, ignoring those nervousness, don’t expect for perfection, etc. From her presentation, I could apply what she taught me into reality. Before, I had personal speech today. I’m usually a person who’s worried. unable to handle my nervousness, which eventually made me forget what I prepared to speak. However, I visualized myself that I can do it like she told me to before presenting today and I could do presentation throughout 5-7 min even though I felt nervous from having to speak at first and my voice started quivering as I spoke a very emotional topic.
Next, For Napat’s, She’s talking about Central idea, I learn that central idea should be comprehensive to all detail presenters are going to explain; when audiences listen to central idea sentence(s), they need to get the whole concept presenters will speak about. Besides, Central Idea should no be a rhetorical question and use figurative language. I think this can be applied in writing as well. When writing an essay, many times, we wrote what we felt like and did not remember the central idea we need to focus on, which makes our essay’s composition out of place and not solid.

Narathep's presentation was detailed and presented well. It was about jazz which was interesting for me to listen to because music is a big part of my life. His grammar and pronunciation was good. He did a great job in explaining the historical aspect of jazz. Narathep also included many pictures referencing his personal life to jazz. He goes in depth about the impact that jazz has on his life, both musically and personally. You can tell how much jazz means to him. Not only does he relate this topic to his personal life, he also talks about how jazz has affected his home country, Thailand. He provides clear example of songs and movies that have jazz music in it. His tone of voice shows how passionate he is about this topic.
Thanawin's presentation had a valid credibility statement. He talks about his parents' background involving cars and how this has influenced him growing up. He shows his car models, which was a good example to add. He does a great job in explaining why he is passionate about these vehicles. Thanawin seems to have a lot of background information on this topic which makes me, as a speaker, trust the content that he is displaying. Adding Paul Walker as a real life example was also helpful to explaining the topic. However, there should be a change in the tone of voice. Even though we can tell that he's interested in this topic, some enthusiasm should be used to elevate the mood of the speech.

Sea's tutorial video is about choosing a topic for your speech. I learned that this process was broken down into two categories that include, topics you know a lot about and topics you want to know more about. He should summarize his ideas onto the slide so the audience doesn't have too much to read. However, he did make some good points in how to deal with nervousness by saying that you should be prepared and use the power of visualization. To make his information reliable and factually correct, he included statistics showing the percentage of decrease in stress. Overall, I think he did a good job in presenting his topic with facts and details.

General and specific purpose by Phuping. In this tutorial he explains that the goal of a speech falls into 2 categories, to inform and to persuade. One crucial idea that I would like to point out is determining the specific purpose of our speech by narrowing the choices, by stating the purpose in a single infinitive phrase. Our audiences have different backgrounds, so our statement needs to be clear choose your target audience to persuade and find ways to inform your audience so that they can relate to and find it meaningful. After I did my personal speech, I realized that these things can easily be looked over, and we really need to determine our main ideas especially when developing the speech outline because the main points are the key ideas we present to enable our speech to accomplish its specific purpose. The video is clear and the music in the background was a great touch.
The similarities and differences between public speaking and conversation by Jenny. Both public speaking and conversation involve speakers and audiences, it is very important that you need to organize your thoughts and adjust your message based on both your audience and the context of your speech or conversation. Even though public speaking are more highly structured, a good speech and a good conversation both share elements of compelling and engaging storytelling. As someone who move my hands a lot while presenting, I need to avoid these possible distractions. Speeches use formalized language, especially when I want to "inform"or deliver my main points/message, I need to keep a certain formality of speaking. The tutorial content was relevant and well explained.

Even the best prepared people can feel nervous, which is completely normal if you're not in a public speaking environment very often. Personally, I am really nervous about not being confident in my English. When I'm nervous, I talk faster and keep my body still, because I like it to be over quick. This shows that I need to make an effort to calm my body and mind and be in a calm state, which also expresses confidence. In addition, while giving a speech, you can actively think and prepare what you are going to say, which can distract the speaker and make him more relaxed.
Introduction
The first step is to connect the topic with your audience and give them a good start in thinking that your presentation is interesting. The second is to set a clear theme, because the audience won't pay attention if they don't know or can't follow the theme. This helps the audience to understand. You can also use jokes and examples to cheer them up and use quotes to get their attention.I think it's a good technique because I use it to adapt to it.

ReplyDeleteMain Idea
The most important thing and the first thing to do is finding a main idea. However no all the idea are well suite the style of each person. Picking the topic that we already experienced or are used to it can increased the effencienty of the speech. Not only that but while giving a speech the speaker should be on the track and cannot speak of of the main idea much, as if the main idea is like a line that the speaker cannnot cross. Therefore we need to choose the main idea that is not too broad nor to narrow.
Confidence
You cannot only have a information on your head. While having a speech you will be pin down by the pressure from the eyes that watching you, so even with the number of preparition that you make you will always struggle to talk every time you are on a stage. The thing that will help is confidence, be yourself, and let go of the pressure while speaking will enhance the speech by quite alot.
